The idea
Every day, thousands of people fly with unused space in their bag.
At the same time, someone needs an eligible item on that exact route. Shift brings the two together — with verification, structure and visibility the informal version never had.
One journey. Two needs.
How Shift works
01 — Request
The sender provides where the item is travelling from, where it needs to go, preferred timing, item details and relevant recipient information.
02 — Review
Eligible requests go through the appropriate review process before progressing.
03 — Match
Shift coordinates the request with an appropriate verified traveller travelling on the relevant route.
04 — Verify & hand over
The Shift process is designed around identity checks, parcel verification and recorded handovers.
05 — Travel
The traveller carries the approved item as part of their existing journey.
06 — Receive
The destination process verifies the appropriate recipient and records successful collection.
Journeys
Senders, travellers and small businesses on the UK–Ghana corridor — in their own words.

“I send things to my mum in Kumasi every month. This just makes sense.”

“I fly back four times a year. If my bag can help someone, why not?”

“My customers wait weeks for stock. A journey that's already happening is faster.”

Safety
Moving someone's belongings internationally requires more than simply matching two people.
Participants can be subject to verification appropriate to their role.
Senders provide information about what is being transported.
Important custody events can be recorded through the Shift process.
Relevant users can follow the progress of the delivery journey.
Shift is being designed with operational control at the centre of the early service.
How we're thinking about safety →
Verification and controlled processes are being built into the experience ahead of launch.
The model
Shift's early service is intentionally being designed with operational oversight rather than attempting to automate every decision from day one.
